Unsigned Bands Website

I have debating whether to write about this website Dance Artists;">Unsigned.com because some of the music is just not to my liking. However, I remember in college and in high school and even now, I taste in music is so eclectic, that once I started getting deeper into the site, I found that there are alot of great unsigned bands out there that are dying to be found by fans and others. I think that a fan base is what every band is looking for, whether those fans are live at concerts at small venues or online where they can download songs and share them with their friends. That is how many of my best songs were discovered, by going to a club (back in the day) and a friend of mine or me finding a song that just spoke to us and telling everyone about it. I guess back in the 80's that was our version of viral marketing...telling a friend, who tells a friend, and so on and so on. Plus, flirting with the DJ and giving them a copy of the song works well too.

So, Unsigned.com is like handing a million people your favorite song or group for the DJ to play. How great is that. And some of these bands have significant talent that should be discovered. Christian bands, country bands, alternative bands (which I always favored in my "day"), and lots of other bands that may strike the fancy of anyone who loves music. I am, and have always been, a music lover ever since my dad brought home the rock and roll of the 70's, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Wings, America, Fleetwood Mac. I grew up sitting on my front porch listening to the newest sounds and I think that if you get to check out this website, it will take you back to that front porch where you too can listen to the newest sounds not heard by many. Isn't it great to hear a band you have been listening to for years to finally make it to the radio? I remember back in college those bands for me were the Hooters, Rusted Root, Sarah McLaughlin, among others. I thought I was on the cutting edge of music...maybe I was, maybe not...but I felt in the know. Know you too can be in the know. Check out Unsigned.com. You will be in the know.

A friend in the blogging, Thursday Thirteen, world sent me a link to WordPress to check it out for blogging. When I saw the title, "How to make a six figure income blogging" I couldn't resist. Who wouldn't want to earn that kind of money blogging? What would I need to do? I don't do nude scenes!! So here is what I found. I find it is a very interesting concept.

Thursday Thirteen Edition #2

Thirteen of the best kids birthday cakes I have made for my 4 kids over the past 11 years.

1. Race Car Track - included hotwheels cars, track made out of graham crackers, country flags made by my sister and cousin in the middle of the night out of toothpicks and paper. Cool cake and lots of fun for Tricia, Allison and I to make. Ben's 2nd birthday.

2. Elmo/Cookie Monster Cakes - These cakes were made for max's 1st birthday. Giant Food stores gave you a free cake for your child's 1st birthday, so we went to two separate Giants and got two free cakes. My artistic cousin Allison, set out to turn the plain cakes into an Elmo face and the Cookie monster cake. They turned out great.

3. For Ben's first cake, we just got one of the free Giant cakes, but the theme was The Big One. (like in one yo). I thought that was clever. That is going on 11 years ago because Ben will be 11 in march.

4. The worst cake I ever made was for Libby's birthday party over the summer a few years ago. I made those ice cream cone cakes and when i was ready to serve them, they all sunk into one big blob in the center. Everyone ate them and they tasted good, but it was a really messed up cake.

5. Bowling alley cake - i made a bowling alley cake out of a sheet cake. i cut it so that it resembled a bowling lane and put candles at the end of the cake for pins. i used gum balls for bowling balls. And decorated it to look just like an alley. We had the party at the bowling alley, so it was appropriate.

6. One time i was running out of time and instead of making libby's a cake, i bought one from Walmart. it was so pretty. it was a bunch of different colored cupcakes, each put together and made into a butterfly. i took lots of pictures of the cake even though i didn't make it. you have to know when to bake and when to go with what is already there. That time it worked out. i got a lot of compliments on that purchased butterfly cake.

7. Max and Joe both have September birthdays, so we took them to the Tony Hawk Boom Boom Huck jam tour in Philadelphia. That year, the weekend before school started, we had a party for them at our local swimming pool and had the skateboarding/Tony Hawk theme. of course, i made a skateboard cake. pretty awesome. We also made slime at that party, which i could never have done without the help of my best friend Theresa.

8. I also created my own double cake with tin foil. you know how you can purchase a cake that has chocolate and vanilla. Well, by placing tin foil in the middle, i can use a bigger pan and put chocolate on one side and vanilla on the other. That was a big hit when everyone wants a different slice of cake.

9. One thing i have never done and will probably never do is make those sweet, sweet flowers that you find on bakery cakes. yuck.

10. Last year, i got the Betty Crocker cake pan; the one that you can make dome cakes out of. With moving and all of the upheaval, i haven't had a chance to use it yet.

11. Ben's birthday is coming up next and i don't know what to make yet for his birthday. he is turning 11 and is getting a little old for theme cakes. We took him to the laserdome (a laser tag place) last year and just brought a homemade, normal cake. I know he wants to go back to the Laserdome, so we will see what happens.

12. The worst cake I made was for valentine's day when DH and I were dating. It was in a heart shaped pan that was pretty deep and I made the mistake of putting all of the whole box of cake mix into the one pan. Well the outside cooked and the middle was like pudding, uncooked cake pudding. It tasted good and I guess we got lucky we didn't get sick eating not cooked cake mix.

13. I try to make cakes once in a while for the kids on normal days. Brownies, cakes, pies, desserts. I don't do it as much as my mom used to do, but they enjoy it. Last year, I made an ice cream cake. I took a gallon of ice cream, melted it, took it out of the carton and poured hot fudge sauce over the top. That was my attempt at an ice cream cake. Neat huh.

Brangalina??? Justin and Jessica??

I was just over as MSN and looking at the People section. Brad and Angelina making nice with Courtney Cox and hubby...Justin Timberlake snowboarding with Jessica Biel to the peevish peeve of ex-Cameron Diaz. Does anyone stay together anymore. There was an article about the un-divorce, where people stay together because of finances, kids, etc and don't get divorced. Celebs don't seem to have that one down as they are always breaking it off or getting divorced or living together and adopting kids.

The Un-Divorce does sound appealing so that the kids aren't subjected to a lengthy custody battle. Plus moving and all the turmoil that goes along with divorce. But when does staying together for finances or the kids become a problem and become worse for the kids than the divorce? I would want my kids to be alittle older and be able to handle a divorce, but teenagers are just as suspectible, even more so because they are in turmoil anyway. I think sometimes that you have to do what is right for you, after a lot of thought and prayer. If it is right for you, then it will be right for the kids. I don't mean just hopping in and out of relationships willy-nilly, but really asking if staying together is doing more harm than good for the kids.

I don't know. Anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. By the way, the mental health day worked out okay all around. Everyone was feeling better and back to school/work today. Libby's ear is healing nicely and she is taking her amoxicillin like a champ and Ben is on the mend and not throwing up anymore. They all got their report cards today and did relatively well. One of the kids got a D in Social Studies, but promised to work harder on getting better grades. I guess C's aren't too bad, but I would prefer A's and B's. We'll work harder during the next marking period. Promise..

Thursday Thirteen

I am trying this Thursday Thirteen idea to see how many people are interested in doing it. If you click on their official website, it looks like alot of people are into it. 1…. We got a new dog.

2. He is a German Shepherd and is such a sweet dog.

3. I have been really sick since last Saturday and am now taking a strong antibiotic, Biaxin and cough medicine with Codeine.

4. I probably should not drive while taking the Codeine.

5. Although I love our new dog, I can't stand to keep going outside every 30 minutes to let him relieve himself when I am so sick. What a drag.

6. The kids started Language club this week.

7. They are all taking Spanish so we can talk Spanish together at the kitchen table.

8. Too bad I took French in high school and college.

9. My oldest son is home sick too with a high fever.

10. He is more awake today and therefore a bit more cranky.

11. I love Diet Pepsi, but it hurts my throat to drink it since I have a sore throat.

12. My kids don't help out with the dog as much as I think they should. This leads to accidents sometimes.

13. My mother is taking an upholstery class and is making a chair for my daughter. It is a trash to treasure kind of thing, since she found the chair at the curb being thrown away.
